| i've decided i hate riding in cars here. i would choose public transportation 100000000000 times than ride in that stuffed up, cramped, sticky, hot mess of a car. jam packed in a tiny car with irritated loud asians is quite the nightmare.
the five of us went to get grandpa's hearing aid today. we had to wait for over an hour. at least it was air conditioned. i've realized that i have quite the ability to sleep anywhere at anytime in basically any position. grandma was supposed to call auntie to come pick us up after we were done but grandma didn't realize that cellphones needed to be charged..so we didn't have any means of communication with our aunt. and no prearranged meeting area. it took forever to locate each other. if i got separated from the rest of them, i would probably just sit down and cry. there's just too many people everywhere..
after that, we went to go pick up our visa's. anddd then we went for lunch! yay! i had beef noodle soup! yum :) m and auntie had hot and sour noodle soup and grandpa and grandma shared satay chicken fried rice. we also got a side of spicy beef and grandma had some intestines..yuck.
...finish laterrrrr

| today's adventures: lunch, shopped, relaxation time, swimming, supper, sleep :) pretty chill day which was wonderful.
had lunch with the relatives at the dim sum place close by. i think there were 12 of us in total. 3 cousins (marco (11yo), nico (7yo), joyce (13yo)), 2 uncles, aunt, great aunt & great uncle, grandpa & grandma, sister & me.
we had 25 dishes for like $420 HKD i thinkk. so good! i wish i lived here solely for the food haha. and maybe the shopping as well haha.
as for shopping..i picked up 2 dresses and a shirt :) i've just been getting a few pieces each time we go shopping. it's my goal not to splurge at any place cause i always come across nicer things as we go.
first time i've been swimming in a loooooooong time. haha feels funny to be in a swimsuit. also very self conscious..since EVERYONE looks like an asian barbie here. sooo tiny...oy. wow and am i ever out of shape. haha swim one lap and i'm already out of breath. i'd like to be able to swim..10 in a row without dying by the end of the 5 weeks haha. i wonder if that's a good goal to set...i'll ask my super athletic aunt what she thinks about it haha.
just ate supper at home tonight. and m did the dishes.

| today we went to..
a 'pre-japan-tour' briefing. it was just the four of us that went, and it took forever to get there. we had to ask a lot of randoms for directions. grandma also told us that they would supply 'dim sum' but all they had were tiny little sandwiches and 'sui mai wannabes'. very disappointing lunch! during the actual presentation, i think i understood about 50% of it..our luggage is team purple.
after that, we went to check out the 'avenue of stars'. it was super hot out...we took a lot of pictures. hong kong's skyline is really pretty. there was so much pollution everywhere though. kinda sucks.(i feel like i should be pairing up pictures with the things i say, but that'll take so much longer and i'm just that lazy). ooh and i saw pirate ships!!!!!!! well, obviously not real ones, but ones that have been reconstructed to look like what they used to look like. oh and i don't like honeydew ice cream :S yuck.
supper was really good tonight! we had bbq pork, stuffed tofu, veggies, chicken. it sounds so bland in english but they all had fancy chinese names and was so good! haha m wanted to mcd's again, for the 3rd day in a row..but she didn't get any.
we were in the really touristy part so it was very multicultural, which we enjoyed quite a bit. haha it's refreshing when not everybody looks exactly the same as you.
on the way home, m made a new friend on the subway. she asked the guy next to her to teach her how to text in chinese. it was pretty amusing. i'm pretty sure he thought we were retarded as she couldn't even write her own chinese name and then proceeded to write out all the chinese words she knew which consisted of: i, big, three, mouth, and half of love. it was kinda embarrassing but i gotta hand it to her, she's able to start conversations with anyone and anywhere..so that's kinda cool.
ohh the internet wasn't really working well so i wasn't able to skype with anyone :(

| wow that was lame. lost internet connection right after i pressed save. AGH. first designated shopping day (sandals, 2 dresses - m bought more than me for once! haha) day basically went like this: ate, shopped, ate, shopped, ate :) overall a pretty good day other than the fact that we stuck out like crazy everywhere we went. maybe i'm just paranoid but people were constantly staring!! i don't know how they instantly know that we're not from around here even before we start speaking..(maybe because everyone is stick skinny here and apparently we're considered 'larger'). ohhhh and those crazy crazy almost crazier than my grandma sales assistants...one literally chased me around the store to pet my hair. soo strangee. umm i think i got a bit homeisck today :( we skyped with the parents and kaykay. it was super cute! haha ohh we had our first dim sum here today! SO GOOD! and then had seafood for supper, also yum! hahaha the not-being-able-to-read-chinese handicap got to us today as we got lost trying to find a bathroom in the dimsum restaurant today..we ended up in kfc. went to the market for the first time..it really brings back memories from the last time we were here 6 years ago..having to hold your nose forever and walking as fast as you can without splashing pig blood on yourself. ew. | | |
| loooooong day today..woke up so so early! i'm surprised i'm not ridiculously jetlagged right now.
today's adventures: - visa - longest car ride of life there (makes me glad i live in a little city) had to wait for a long time before our number was called..there were also devil children sitting behind us that made me never want to have little boys. they are truly little monsters. so loud and so annoying. one even threw a ball at me.. - hk convention centre - had lots of fun taking pictures here, grandpa is so adorable! he participated in jumping pictures..but he called them 'frog pictures'. so cute! :) - lunch at seafood restaurant - yay for good food! the deep fried tofu was SO good! so crispy on the outside and so soft in the inside..and stuffed chicken wings (with pork)! and..this coconut milk dessert that was delicious! (and jellyfish, satay beef noodles and..i forget what else.. - visited 'gu po' and 'gu ye ye' - they look the same from 6 years ago, ate lychees there, didn't understand what they were talking about. watched national geographic while they talked..our second cousin stayed in his room and played computer games instead of coming out to talk to us. i made a paper fan cause it was so hot. grandma broke their toilet and i really needed to go pee. - buddhist garden - super nice but it was raining outside so it was extra humid and soggy and the mosquitos were killing us. i was an extremely whiny baby here and probably annoyed everybody. - dinner in hollywood plaza - soo good! spicy wontons, fried rice, spicy noodle soup, peanut chicken noodles, mini soupy buns, fatty pork, spinach like vegetables and stinky tofu (only gross thing i ate all day!)
it was a good day overall. the heat just has some kind of power over me and turns me instantly into mr. irritable. i haven't felt this irritable in a long time. but good food definitely trumps awful weather so i think i'll be okay! also..if anyone thinks they have a crazy grandma...just try spending one day cramped into a tiny car with mine. i guarantee she will blow your mind. she ran over a little girl today..while walking..and she didn't even realize it when the little girl gave her a death glare. i have never witnessed one person cause so much commotion everywhere they go..i'll just leave it at that.
